classwork/Homework
M: Biology - First we looked at good vs ugly graphs (ppt found below) in preparation to produce our final graphs. You have also had your opportunity to collect all of the data that you need to complete your initial lab report. So if you look at your lab report guidelines that can be found on page 5 of your notebook, you should have parts 1-6 completed and print by tomorrow. You don't have the analysis, but you can print everything up to that point. Get this done since you will be turning in the final lab report on Wednesday. You can get printing done in the library or at home, but please don't give me excuses, and NO I can't print it for you. We'll work on the final piece tomorrow. Oh, and if you were out today, please contact someone in your class for the all-classes data you missed and will need for your third line (or set of bars). Medical Biology - You too are finishing your lab report, just like regular biology. So, look above for what needs to get done. T: Biology - Well, in some ways today is a very simple day. You should have your 6 lab report parts done and need only to complete the last part of the lab. This is listed in the lab write-up guidelines, but this is only a general guideline. You are welcome to organize your work any way you see fit. Tomorrow you will turn in a printed copy of your lab report. Please do not come to class with excuses. This will make me sad and want to pluck your eyeball out with a chopsticks! Medical Biology - Today, just see above. please don't forget that we should be looking at the health ramifications of all of this. This is how you will get to a 5 on this project! W: Biology - Okay so the next three days are going to be kind of one big list of things so I'm going to write it all here and then let you refer to this list for the next three days since I'll be out of town. So today you turned in your lab reports! Then we started with a new essential question,"How do the broken down materials from digestion actually get to the cells?" Good question, right? Well, it's out next task. Then I did a demonstration where you noticed the migration of the perfume through the room. I wonder what this has to do with cells getting what they need?! In any case, you should have your initial ideas written on the lower right side of this new entry titled, "Getting the Building Blocks to the Cell" Now related to this, and since I'll be out for a couple of days, I want you to complete the following between your in-class time and your homework time. You decide how to bust it up and get it done, but there will be a quiz on the movie on Monday . So here it is: 1) Watch the movie Food, Inc. (http://documentary-movie.com/food-inc/ ) As you watch it, I want you to take notes on the movie on the right side of a new entry. You should note your response to the following questions: What are the primary motivators for companies? list at least two positive and two negative aspects to large corporations running our growing operations. List at least two positive and two negative aspects of small farms running our food sources (be sure to use data from the movie). On the left hand side I want you to decide if this movie is "Truth" or if this is opinion. Tell me why you believe what you believe. Could it be a little of both? Lastly, are we as consumers part of the problem? 2) Read the article found at (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/08/100826122624.htm) On the right side of a new entry you will use the reading strategy "Read and Recall" to dig through the article. This strategy is found on your reference pages and if you lost that page you can print another copy from my "online resources" page. On the left side of this entry, I would like you to use the processing strategy , "Make a movie Poster" found in your reference sheet titled "Process, Process, Process...." BUT you could make it like an advertisement if you choose to. This is all due Monday! Don't waste your time. Medical Biology - Well, the lab reports came in today. On the left hand side I want you to decide if this movie is "Truth" or if this is opinion. Tell me why you believe what you believe. Could it be a little of both, or is everything based off of perspective? Be skeptical, but keep an open mind. 2) Read the article found at (http://health.usnews.com/health-news/blogs/eat-run/2013/04/23/digestive-enzymes-help-or-hype) On the right side of a new entry you will identify the three enzyme related digestive issues that can be helped by enzymes that are listed through the article. Define these using your own words. Describe the ways we can solve some of these problems with enzymes. Lastly, make a decision of whether these products are "help or hype." On the left side of this entry I want you to use the processing strategy , "Make a movie Poster" found in your reference sheet titled "Process, Process, Process...."
