classwork/Homework
I couldn't stand it anymore! I had to get the pumpkins out of my room!!! Only three weeks in and neither of the preservation treatments even came close to working. The bottom line is that pumpkins are so nutrient rich that life can't help but flourish! Take a look at how they were right before tossing them... M and T: Biology - This week is going to be kind of weird. It's our week to deal with the midterm. Time to put together all of the ideas we've been working on. So here are the 6 big ideas/essential questions: 1) What are the materials we are made of? 2) Where did these materials come from? 3) Why is water so important to living things? 4) How to chemicals help to break these materials down? 5) How do these broken down materials get into our cells? 6) How does our body tell us we need or don't need these materials? In the next two days you will work on a poster presentation that not only tells the answers to these questions, but also tells how these are connected to each other. Tonight you should go home and on the right side you should have the questions and on the left hand draft out how you see these concepts connected. Next you should go back through your notes and dig up all of the vocabulary that's important to each of these and know how they fit into this big picture. You could even just list page numbers of entries that go with each topic. Ultimately you should know that these concepts will be used in a poster project in the ways that were outlined on the sheet you received. This sheet has also been attached below. You will have Tuesday in class, Tuesday night, and the whole project will be completed by the end of class on Wednesday. Medical Biology - As above, you will be completing your mid-term this week, and while it is very much like what you will find above, but you must also include health issues to go along with each topic. That's something that isn't listed above. W: Biology - Parent Input is due next week. Update your table of contents as well. Lastly, on a SEPARATE sheet of paper I want you to read this article: http://www.techtimes.com/articles/104417/20151109/fomo-leads-to-depression-and-anxiety-in-teen-social-media-users.htm This article is important as tomorrow is depression awareness. Once you have read the article, on your paper I want you to: 1) Define FOMO, 2) Copy the statistics given in the article, 3) Pick out two quotes that you think are significant AND WHY you think this, and 4) Give me your overall opinion as to how it applies to you. Use at least one statistic from the article. Medical Biology - Parent Input is due next week. Update your table of contents. On the right side of a new entry (Dr. Jones, Pharmacologist) I want you to find out what a pharmacists does, what schooling is required, and then prepare 3 questions for our guest speaker, Dr. Jones. Also, think about what you think you would like to do in the future when it comes to science. Th: Biology - Today was depression awareness day and this is why I assigned last night's homework. You then watched a video on Happiness (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KkKuTCFvzI ) today. While watching the video you are suppose to gather two quotes that resonate with you. This just means 2 statements that you like. Tonight, I want you to use these two quotes and attach these to the ideas from the article. This should be at least 5 sentences. Medical Biology - Today you had a great guest speaker, Dr. Jones! As he spoke he probably addressed many of your questions. Tonight I want you to reflect on Dr. Jones's talk, list the answers to the questions you developed (if they didn't all get answered, it's okay), and then list your current top 3 career options. Could Pharmacology be one of those you would consider? This all goes on the left of the entry. F: Biology - So today you had a chance to reflect on your partners work and then to reflect on the work of others. And really, if you think about it, you now should really know what we are made of and how do we get this material. Next week we will start on on our next great concept, what happens inside of our cells and how does this make the huge diversity we find in life! If we had time, we also watched this video on animal diversity. If we didn't get to it, just take 6 minutes to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RziBBIfodU In preparation for next week I just want you to update your table of contents. OH! AND DON'T FORGET TO GET YOUR PARENT INPUT! Medical Biology - Today you had a chance to reflect on your partners work and then to reflect on the work of others.
