classwork/Homework
Monday IB Biology - Today you were able to begin your follow-up round of experimentation on enzymes. This write up will be due by Monday of next week and should follow EVERY detail of the IA rubric that is posted at the bottom of last week's classwork blog. In the meantime, you should be starting the new content which is chapter 8.1, Metabolic Pathways. Actually this isn't really new stuff, just more in depth It's relatively short and here's what you need to have a grasp of: Enzymes and Activation Energy Enzyme inhibitors, types End-product inhibition Chemogenetics and DBQ 378 and 379 These will be due by the end of the week, but I will have a socrative quiz next week on 8.1 and 8.2. Biology - Today we looked at the next leap to understanding how our cells get powered, the topic of cellular respiration. To start this next step you did a cell illustration based off of cells alive. https://www.cellsalive.com/swf/cell_model.swf That drawing should have straight lines from organelles to labels, 2-5 word summary per label, and is color coded. Since this took longer than expected and will need to be completed by tomorrow. PREVIEW OF TOMORROW: On the left we Focused on the mitochondria with a drawing and some notes. Do the drawing of cell respiration that I provided you. Slowly but surely we are getting it all! If you haven't already done it, please also do your table of contents. Honors Biology - You guys did something very similar to my regular bio, but your homework tonight is to find two conditions that are related to mitochondrial problems. List their causes, treatments, and an illustration that shows the issue. JUST complete the illustration for tomorrow and we'll pick things up from there. Tuesday IB Biology - Today you continued your enzyme research. If you are staying up on your 8.1 chapter information you probably saw a lot of enzyme information. Remember that you need to be ready for next week when you hit chapter 8.2 so don't let it pile up. BRING IN FOOD FOR THE FOOD DRIVE!! Biology - So yesterday that drawing took WAY longer to get done than I expected. But that's okay, we'll survive. Today we'll get caught up. Today we'll make a drawing of the mitochondria and get an idea of how it works. Beyond this the only homework that I really need you to do is to bring in FOOD for the food drive! I want to win this! Oh yeah! I have stickers for every contributor! ...it's okay, no need to thank me. :) Honors Biology - I hope you have your cell drawing done because we need to move! Today we'll investigate the mitochondria and it's function. Today, or maybe tonight, you need to complete the work I actually assigned yesterday. I NEED FOOD FOR THE FOOD DRIVE!!!! ...also the final lab work will be done on your test subject. Wednesday IB Biology - Today was the last day for you to experiment with your enzymes. Today and tonight you should be ready to complete the write up. USE THE IA CHECKLIST! I am going to be a big stickler about it and may just hand it right back if it isn't in line with the checklist! In addition to putting together your lab report I want you to complete your readings on 8.1. Tomorrow you are going to have a substitute while you have a guest speaker, Mr. Andres Trujillo, RN UCSD. The expectation is that you come prepared with some questions for Mr. Trujillo. Here are some that I want asked, How did he know he wanted to become an RN? Or What was his educational path? Or what are some positive and negative aspects of the job that we should be aware of? Biology - Today you had a chance to finish your testing of your subject. It's now time to start a write-up! You need to take the data and using the points that I made today in class about how to make a bar graph (possibly a line) on this data you need to now analyze what you did. Each person in your group should have the same graphs and introduction, but you will each have your own analysis which means that you should be able to discuss the success of your experiment, where your strengths and weaknesses were, and what would improve what you have done. Print a HARD COPY for MONDAY. Honors Biology - See what went down in my regular bio class above, but you need to follow the lab report guidelines found in the notebook. Each person needs their own report so have it ready for Monday. USE THE NOTEBOOK DESCRIPTIONS! BTW your write up can be identical except for the conclusion! This conclusion is where the difference between a 4 and a 5 happens! Be sure that you write up a detailed connection of cellular respiration and ATP with your exercise experiment. There might be other things you could do, but this is one solid direction to get the "5". Thursday - I'm OUT! Sub Today. IB Biology - Today you were lucky enough to have guest speaker, Mr. Andres Trujillo, RN. I hope you engaged him with the questions we had laid out yesterday as well as just enjoyed the talk as a possibility for your future. Your final lab report should be ready for review on MONDAY. Do not fail. We'll be starting 8.2 in the book next week as well. Don't let it pile up on you! Biology - Since we have been working on how we apply what we know about how the body works, you will be watching Pushing the Limits - Strength (Title of your new entry) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xsw0ku It should also be important to note that without bone the muscle has no leverage! As you take notes on the right hand side of your entry on what ligament, tendon, cartilage, skeletal system, smooth muscle, skeletal muscle, and cardiac muscle are, you may want to include illustrations. On the left hand side, describe one of the scenarios you saw (like the man throwing giant stone off of him) and then explain what happened using all of the vocabulary. If any of our vocabulary isn't involved then just say that it isn't involved. Since this is a minimum day, you will have to finish this movie at home. I will be checking the work next week. Honors Biology - Today your day was identical to my IB class in that you got a chance to hear from Mr. Andres Trujillo. Please make sure that once you heard from Mr. Trujillo and recorded his responses, on the left hand side you will need to summarize YOUR THOUGHTS on what he had to say. Is this something you would consider? Why or why not? Does this give you something new to think about? Etc. Don't forget, the final lab report will be collected on Monday! ...want that "5" for a grade. Don't forget to go in depth on ATP and cellular respiration and how it connects with this! Friday - NO SCHOOL!!!! Honor our veterans!
