classwork/Homework
M: Biology - Today we started the exploration of a brand new concept in biology, How do we inherit traits? To start this out you received an article (attached below) and developed a claim using evidence and with your reasoning explained. We'll explore this strange situation as we learn new concepts through the next few months. Then we began our next topic of fertilization with a brief video from youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5OvgQW6FG4) on how the egg is fertilized by sperm. Lastly we began watching Life's Greatest Miracle. We'll finish this up later this week, probably on Wednesday because M.U.N. is happening tomorrow and we'll lose a ton of freshman so we'll take a tangent with whoever is left. As to homework, come up with a minimum of three points/topics that you would need to know to answer the News of the Weird questions. As homework I need you to decide what information you would need to answer the News of the Weird questions. I want a minimum of three points. Lastly, I need you to find a current event news article (last 12 months) on how inheritance occurs. You need to print this and KNOW it. You'll need to discuss this later this week. T: Biology - Today the Model UN broke up our class so we took a "left turn" and did an off shoot of what our current topic is, procreation and fertilization, and instead talked about STDs! ICK! GROSS! I can't post the pictures online, but I didn't require any follow up homework with it so no worries. Medical Biology - Because the Model UN disrupted our class we took a day to nvestigate something that many of you were curious about, but we spent little time with, the Brain! I can't post the movie online, but there isn't any required homework based off of it so don't worry about it if you missed it. The work that everyone must do tonight is going to be for the article you found. Take that article, read it and then do the "Sum It Up!" strategy that's found in your reference pages in your notebook. This work should end up on the left hand side of the entry where you put your article. W: Biology - Today we finished the movie Life's Greatest Miracle. We took notes in each section/chapter and now tonight you need to go home and complete your left hand organizer so that you have all of the important details for each month at a minimum. Medical Biology - Today we completed the Life's Greatest Miracle movie. You should have some good notes to work with, but by next Monday you will be completing an informational timeline for an expectant mother that details key points in pregnancy for both the mother and child. Tonight I need you to fill out your timeline. As you do this, be sure to use the terms zygote, embryo, and fetus. Th: Biology - Yesterday we spent the day finishing the movie Life's Greatest Miracle and many of you decided that you are NOT having a baby. That's fine, but someday you might change your mind. Today we spent time looking at contraception, or how NOT to have a baby. Tonight I want you to focus on your work from yesterday and start the rough draft of a flyer that would inform mothers of their child's development through their pregnancy. You may want to consider using a free online service called piktochart.com. Medical Biology - So yesterday some of you ladies were totally freaked out at the prospect of having a child. Today we talked about the various ways to NOT have a baby. Tonight I only need you to create the rough draft for your handout design that will inform parents of what they can expect as the pregnancy moves from fertilization to birth, but also describe the major landmarks of the growth and devlopment of the baby. I'd really like you to give piktochart.com a shot. I think it might really do a good job on this kind of assignment. F: Biology - Today you had a chance to hear from the organization that promotes organ donation, but next week we jump right back into trying to answer the question of how is it possible (or it isn't) to have that strange set of triplets. For Monday you will need to have your rough draft of the handout you will complete by Tuesday. This should be final draft kind of work. Anything that isn't proofed for spelling and grammar is automatically a 1. Medical Biology - Hopefully you took a look at piktochart.com last night. Today we heard from the organ donation people. Next week we'll continue to learn about how traits are passed on, but for now focus on that handout which should be written for your patient and detailing what she will experience as her child develops in the womb. A rough draft should be ready by Monday.
