classwork/Homework
Monday
IB Biology - Today we started by battling out what the real answer could be for our Chi Squared Question! I will continue to work on that today and I have already found one issue that I fixed. Some of you said you would take it to Ms. Rosson as well. We'll figure this out. Tomorrow you will be taking a unit test and be required to apply what you know. For tomorrow's portion I want you to be ready to create a pedigree for a client. Review those sections of the book. ONE THING I FAILED TO TELL YOU IS THAT YOU ARE ALLOWED A 3X5 CARD, JUST ONE, TO WRITE NOTES ON ABOUT YOUR CLIENT AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE IN AND OUT OF CLASS. Oh, are any of you coming in for a review of your IA? Honors Biology - Today we spent part of the day reviewing each other's work in preparation for revising our lab reports. Next we reviewed your test writing CER on Addie's bacterial resistance. Lastly, we played Plague Inc. For tomorrow you should be ready to write about the evolution of Addie's bacteria using the four concepts in our notebook. ...and do you have a similar example of evolution to compare with the bacteria? This will get you a FIVE! Lastly, If you could download the Plague inc. app, I'd like you to be ready to discuss your game(s) with us. Tuesday IB Biology - Today we spent our first few minutes reviewing the quiz from yesterday. remember, it doesn't go in the books, and remember that I am your partner, not your adversary! Next we discussed that we need you reporting your internships and job shadows on this website under the "Online Resources" page in order for the end of the year ceremony. Of course, if you are still in the process of doing these things, you can report it when you are done. Lastly, you started the first part of the test/case study. You should have created a pedigree on your client. You probably also took some notes down on your 3x5 card. Tomorrow you will address questions about your client that rely on your understanding of autosomal dominant and recessive traits, as well as sex linked traits. Be sure to add anything you like to your 3x5 card, but no more than this one card. ...please be honest about this. Honors Biology - Today we passed back the lab reports that were peer reviewed. It looks like every one of us could use a little bit of polish. You need to re-submit these labs with your corrections. Tomorrow you will turn in your beautiful copy with the copy that had correction marked on it. You will turn in both! Other than this I want you to play Plague Inc (if you can) and observe what makes a successful strategy vs an unsuccessful strategy. Wednesday IB Biology - Today you completed the second part of the Case study on Greg and Olga. Tomorrow you will be cleaning up your work and completing the last part which ultimately will be turned in to your substitute. Tonight do any research you would like to do for your 3x5 card so you can use it on this last day. Honors Biology - Today we debriefed our Plague Inc. app and how it relates to evolution. Tonight you actually have no homework and tomorrow you will be watching a movie with the sub. Please be good for them or you will get an automatic U for the grading period. If you are doing MUN, have fun and get into it! Thursday IB Biology - Today you put the final touches on your unit exam/case study. Once you have completed your exam, please make sure you review your work for clarity! Once you know that it is PERFECT, please staple your work with your pedigree on top and other responses training, and lastly your handouts. Everything comes in with your work. Staple it up and turn it in. You have no real bio homework tonight, but what I would like to offer is for you to come up with our senior field trip. I continue to struggle with anyone stepping up to take us and I need to spend the money that has been allotted to us. SO, you come up with an idea that is medical science related and submit this to the sub tomorrow. I have to be able to justify the trip. It must be bio/medically related. If you say, "the beach," no problem, but then tell me how it is related. Be clever and we could have some fun! Honors Biology - Today you will be watching part 1 of the movie, "Osmosis Jones". Please be sure to preview the questions that will be due on Monday, the sub will have given you this. Tomorrow you will watch the remainder of the movie. Friday IB Biology - Today you will be looking at a transitional topic in our coursework on gene modification and biotechnology. Before you jump into the chapter, which is 3.5, I want you to watch the two following videos to update yourself on what has happened since this book was written. TedTalk:https://www.ted.com/talks/jennifer_doudna_we_can_now_edit_our_dna_but_let_s_do_it_wisely?language=en Ted Talk On Bioethics: https://www.ted.com/talks/harvey_fineberg_are_we_ready_for_neo_evolution Now that you have watched these two videos go into chapter 3.5 and review Gel Electrophoresis and PCR. Next, be sure to read the section on risks and benefits of GM crops. Then complete the DBQ on page 195. Be sure to describe your feelings about the data in the DBQ. Honors Biology - Today you will watch the second half of the movie, "Osmosis Jones". After watching the movie, please be answer the questions that you were given on Thursday. This will be due on Monday.
