classwork/Homework
Monday - HOLIDAY
IB Biology - NA Honors Biology - NA Tuesday IB Biology - So today we recaped what is required to getting your IA submitted on time. Please make sure to have the evaluation ready to be reviewed tomorrow. Then we worked on an energy transfer question, and then a food web question on 219. Bake Ballew pointed out some interesting points in the DBQ on page 219. We'll discuss those odd points we'll discuss tomorrow. IN the meantime I want you to look at the following shared documents and start to set up a VR trip. You don't have to choose a destination yet, just figure out how it works. Here's the site: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1H_oFsKhlY3T6rHlYWkmIlr7NeYSPhlgdLljG0MHn8IE/edit?usp=sharing Also, if you have the time, please fill out the following google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfl5TefHmuhHlCkYUagr2jS5XhJ0dVLs7wL_uC4wAznwmp00A/viewform Honors Biology - Today we went over everything that you know so far this year. You know a lot! Then we discussed what we found about viral and bacterial infections I asked you to look up this weekend and noticed the differences. We then returned to our Addie case study and realized that Addie's infection falls into the bacterial side and you then wrote down a model of what he body might be doing that would cause these responses from the body, and questions that you felt were necessary to address to create a complete model. Ultimately, we realized that we hadn't addressed the immune system really at all. So, first things first is to find out what kinds of cells are involved in any immune response. To address this we went back to our body system entries from the beginning of the year, and on the left side of the Immune System entry I want you to watch this: Crashcourse: Immune System https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeVtPDjJBPU As you watch it, please get down a list of the "players" (cells that work in the immune system) on the left side of this Immune System entry. OH, IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!!! Medical Pathway applications are now open! If you have an interest in joining this program, please fill out the following google form. This is the first step in the application process and all information provided will be verified. Acceptance will rely on the number of applicants and their qualifications. I want EVERY one of you who have been doing well in your current biology course and have a passion to try something new. https://forms.gle/obDb4m2TivWN5oTN8 Also, if you have the time, please fill out the following google form for ASB: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfl5TefHmuhHlCkYUagr2jS5XhJ0dVLs7wL_uC4wAznwmp00A/viewform Wednesday IB Biology - Today our whole focus has been on looking deeper at understanding energy transfers in ecosystems, and you did your work last night of investigating VR tours using Google. What you need to do tonight is to decide on an ecosystem that you are interested in and then creating just the beginning of your tour. This should have a "stop" or two, and show me that you can put in one piece of information. I will visually check these off of your phone on Friday. Tomorrow you have a guest speak. Come up with something you are curious to ask about first responders. Honors Biology - So today we worked our way through the immune response list that you had last night and then watched the following video from Bozeman Science on Immune System. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3M0vU3Dv8E You created a drawing of the castle as an analogy and then laid out the basic idea of what happens in immune response. Lastly, I gave you the coloring sheet to reinforce what we did in class. Please make sure that each step is colored with it's own unique color as well as the description with the same color. Tomorrow you have a guest speaker to talk about being a first responder. Have at least one question you are curious about. Hey, did you notice that yesterday Medical Pathway Applications were posted?! Look and apply tonight! Thursday IB Biology - Well today you had a guest speaker, but I need you to be ready with the start of your VR tour tomorrow. Just what I asked for yesterday. In addition, we have looked at the "players" in an ecosystem, we have looked at the concept of energy cycling through that system, and I now need you to look at how materials cycle through this system., namely Carbon, the backbone to all macromolecules. Please preview chapter 4.3 and complete the DBQ on page 222. Honors Biology - Today you had a guest speaker and I hope he may have given you some good ideas as to what you might want to do in the future. Tonight, having some new knowledge of how the immune system works I would like you to revise your original model from Tuesday on what is going on with Addie. You must include fever, swelling, Macrophage, Helper T, B Cells (and memory), antibodies, and Killer T cells. Friday IB Biology - SO today we took a look at your virtual tours which will be completed next week. You should at this point have an ecosystem selected, and know how to place information into the tour. We then went in depth into looking at how prior knowledge supports how we respond to our DBQ questions. We need to think deeply to answer these well! In any case, the only assignment you have is to upload your IA to turnitin.com before midnight. ANYTHING turned in after this date will not be accepted. Honors Biology - Today we had a wicked karaoke session, and then looked at the immune response work you accomplished on the coloring sheets and your applications to Addie's case. After that we reinforced immune response ideas by playing the game Conflict Immunity (https://biomanbio.com/HTML5GamesandLabs/Physiogames/conflictimmunityhtml5page.html) Hopefully you got at least to level 4 and then tried HIV. I bet you have a better understanding of how it all works, right? For this weekend, I want you pay the game with a family member (mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, etc.) and explain to them how the game works. A signature from your family member at the bottom of the right side of entry 57 - "How do we get sick and get better?" If you want the bonus, describe to them how antibiotics in the game are not accurate. For the point, the family member has to tell me (write) why the antibiotics can actually be harmful in some cases (not most).
