classwork/Homework
Monday
IB Biology - Today we took our final sample test. I had you do this on your own so that you can really look at what you don't know. Your main goal is to pin point those weaknesses you have and then to study for those weaknesses. I will start to comb through the problem topics posted on this website and you should seek me out if you cannot figure it out. For those of you not taking the IB exam next week, I still want you to do this because it will prepare you for our final project. Paper one should be finished by tomorrow. Honors Biology - Today we started by talking about diagnosing patients. Last semester we learned quite a bit about our bodies, and while this semester isn't different, we are focusing on how do we know what's going on inside. You told me that we need to know vital signs, and family history, as well as the environment in which the person lives. We've covered everything except environment so we played with the following interactive https://www.learner.org/courses/envsci/interactives/ecology/ecology.html In this interactive you had 2 goals. Goal 1: Try to get two plants to happily co–exist. Goal 2: how big you can make your food web and still have all of the species you add survive through the end of the simulation run. As homework, on a separate piece of paper, and once you have achieved the two goals, I want you to put down SPECIFIC "rule" about how each goal was achieved. This will be turned in tomorrow. Tuesday IB Biology - Today we responded to all of the question you may have had on paper 1, and I do have to say that there were two that I question. Regardless, the second and third paper were given to you today and you should complete paper 2 by tomorrow so we can review it. I also am continuing to respond to every question posted to the IB Challenging question blog of this site. This is a great way to review the concepts as well. BTW I am deliberately making these practice test worth no points so that there is no pressure so please be respectful enough to complete them. Honors Biology - Today we reflected on what we did with the simulator yesterday to maximize our food web and in the process we found that this can get complex. In fact when we looked at the number of consumers and producers that there was a general patter that we now know we can call a trophic pyramid. We then looked at all of the other factors that can change an ecosystem, as well as what you would need to know to be able to fix a system. Your homework for tonight is ...find a ecological problem in the world and use each of of the concepts to describe it. This will all go on the left side of the entry we did today. You may not have every bit of info you need, but get what you can. Wednesday IB Biology - Today we continued to review by checking out our responses to the practice tests we currently are working on. As an additional resource, please feel free to play these quiz games as we will play these and others against each other for fun on Friday: https://www.syvum.com/squizzes/biology/ or https://www.biologycorner.com/quizzes/ or www.biologyjunction.com/quizzes.htm Honors Biology - Today you got a whole slew of new concepts that I will need you to attach to the environmental issue you found yesterday. Your notes are on the right and your connection to the issue will be on the left. Just like yesterday, you probably won't be able to get everything you need, but come prepared with the majority of it. Thursday IB Biology - It was so good to have you guys back as a class. You are looking much happier as well as you complete the MANY exams you are taking ...but I have also noticed that many of you haven't completed paper 3 practice test. What I need you to do tonight is to complete the topics you chose in paper 3 and to give your best answers. Tomorrow, once we review paper 3, we will play the biology quiz games which I listed above. Honors Biology - Today you got into your groups to share your work from the last 2 days. Next you selected one project to work on for the next week as a group. After that you created a shared document which then should be populated with detailed information on all of the concepts we have discussed so far. Tomorrow you will be formatting this and adding new information. Do not be a slacker, we need details. Friday IB Biology - Today it was good to see all of you and we went over the third and final practice paper. Each of the questions does rely on some knowledge, but focuses mostly on the application of fundamental biological concepts. Take some time for casual review over the weekend to prepare for the test on Monday/Tuesday. If you have tried to really understand how this year's concepts work, and not just memorized a lot of information, you will be fine. If you feel you need to know something about any topic this weekend, please feel free to contact me. Honors Biology - Today you had a very brief description of how we define biomes (by temperature and moisture) and then you got to work on your Ecology write up. The following are components that will need to be included. If you change the order or incorporate 2 topics together, it's fine.
