classwork/Homework
Monday
IB Biology - So I was out today due to planning with the rest of the medbio team, but I'll be back tomorrow. Here's what you should have completed: 1) You worked on your final project. Please don't forget that this project should be entertaining/convincing. This isn't just a report. 2) You will be turning in your books to the library tomorrow. 3) You only have one more week before the potato plant experiment is completed and your plants must go! Scores will be given on how far you got. I see no flowering so far and that's probably because of the factors that were limited and you did not compensate for. Honors Biology - I was out today to continue the refining of our program for your future years. I'll be back tomorrow. On Friday we looked at the concept of microbiomes being just like the biomes we see on Earth. This week we will continue along this path of seeing how our internal system can be though of this way in order to better understand disease. SO, since I'm out today I want you to work on "The Spread of Pathogens" POGIL that I left with the sub. Please just have that completed before tomorrow. As to the project that was due today, it can be shared with me by tomorrow! WOO HOO! Extension! Tuesday IB Biology - Here's the short list of what we did: 1) Books were returned today 2) Graduation is at 5:30 near the office 3) We watched this video on the effects of radioactivity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG-nwQBBfmc 4) You worked on your final project Honors Biology - Today you turned in your reports and we discussed the packet from yesterday about Pathogen spread. Then I taught you about why we might call someone a "Fomite" as a name. Lastly, we looked at how we would know someone is sick by reviewing vital signs. The last thing I talked about was your up coming project worth points. The following list of topics are what we have covered this year. On Friday and next Tuesday we will be watching a video called Cradle to the Grave. You and your partner (if you chose one) will be responsible for providing a food that somehow related to the topic you choose. Pick wisely! Measurement Health metrics Diagnoses Macromolecules Water - Blood Diffusion/Osmosis Enzyme function Cell Structure Cells - Size Membranes Respiration/photosynthesis Body Systems Nerve Function Muscle Function Endocrine - Feedback Digestion Health of the Environment Growth - Mitosis Reproduction Sexual Health Human development Heredity - Genetics Transcription/translation Natural Selection/Adaptation Evolution Cycles and Ecosystems Humans and the environment Disease Transmission Wednesday IB Biology - The end is near!!! We had today to work. Tomorrow you have a minimum day. Friday Dr. Mosson comes to talk to you about school, work, etc. And next Tuesday we begin presentations. Who goes first will be selected randomly so make sure that you are prepared. Honors Biology - Today we received our last lesson of new material and it was on the immune system and it's response to infection. Your job tonight is to find out the function of each of the organs involved in immune response, and come prepared knowing what each does. Here's the video that we watched that showed us what happens on the microscale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQGOcOUBi6s Thursday IB Biology - Today was simply a workday, your last one. Tomorrow you will have guest speaker, Dr. Mosson. Prepare some questions for him about med school, his job, etc. On Tuesday of next week you will start your presentations. These will be approximately 10 minutes in length and will will be entertaining. If yours isn't done, you need to coordinate with your partner to make sure it is ready. If you are done and are itching for something more in biology, feel free to check out the interesting video I posted for my freshmen classes. You can find the URL below. Let me know what you think. Honors Biology - Today we finished the learning we'll get for the year and I hope you, like me, feel you have had a very rich biology experience. But I also talked to you today about the emergent property of "You," of what you are. We watched this video that was tough for some of you, but let me remind you of it's meaning and why I chose to show it. This video was about how much of how we behave is influenced by biology, but that we also have the power to change our behavior. I asked you about who you are, and who you will be. Your past behavior does not need to to dictate your future. 2 weeks from now I may never see you again so I hope you will take five minutes tonight to think about how you can be the best "you" that you can be. I can't check this assignment, but your future may depend on it. Here's the video again: https://www.ted.com/talks/robert_sapolsky_the_biology_of_our_best_and_worst_selves Friday IB Biology - I hope you enjoyed Dr. Mosson's talk today. All you need to know is that your presentation ready to go on Tuesday. Have a restful weekend. You're almost there. Honors Biology - Today you started part 1 of From the Cradle to the Grave. You also set up your notebook with four reflective questions that revolve around this movie. While you can't answer all of the questions until we are done with this movie, you can answer question 1. Please do that first question as well as have your science notebook reviewed by your parents. This is the last parent input score you will receive this year.
