classwork/Homework
M: Biology - HALLOWEEN!!!! There really isn't any homework for you tonight. Go have some fun! ...well, if you didn't complete what you were suppose to do in class you do have some work. If you were absent, you need to know that we watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xir670oorIo&index=5&list=PLO8gTKK005YjktJEY4Yugvx1eZiO5upVf and saw in the video, some amazing creatures, or as they say, entites. Are these animals, plants, or something else? You then made a drawing in a new notebook entry titled, "The Kingdoms of Life" on the right hand side of the 6 kingdoms based off of this illustration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_(biology)#/media/File:Tree_of_Living_Organisms_2.png and this picture will set us up for the rest of the week to ask the question of what happens in cells to make the diversity of life that we see all around us!
Lastly, in honor of Halloween, you started using Read and Recall on the article on the Zombie Ant on a new entry, "Zombie Ant". The article has 11 paragraphs and don't get fooled by the pictures and captures in the begining. That article can be found here: https://www.wired.com/2013/09/absurd-creature-of-the-week-zombie-ant-fungus/ Medical Biology - You guys have no homework either. Go have some fun! ...but if you weren't in class you need to finish the stuff you see above. T: Biology - I'm out today! You need to be pretty self-sufficient! The following is what you need to do: 1) check your 11 questions you created using Read and Recall on your Zombie Ant article with someone near you. 2) Now, ON YOUR OWN, On the left side of the entry, Zombie Ant, I want you to find the definitions for Commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. Then tell which of these three definitions would describe the zombie ant best. State your reasons. 3) Next, on the left side of the entry Kingdoms of Life, create an outlined mirror image of the diagram on the right. Now go to the following website and create cell drawings in the appropriate places on the left side drawing. This site is a good one, but there are others: http://www.wiley.com/college/boyer/0470003790/animations/cell_structure/cell_structure.swf The goal is to record information on the differences in structures from one kingdom to the next so pay attention to what makes them different!!! When you finish your illustrations box/circle these in red so we know that these notes are about structure. What you don't finish in class is homework! Medical Biology 1) check your 11 questions you created using Read and Recall on your Zombie Ant article with someone near you. 2) Now, ON YOUR OWN, On the left side of the entry, Zombie Ant, I want you to find the definitions for Commensalism, mutualism, and parasitism. Then tell which of these three definitions would describe the Zombie Ant best. State your reasons. 3) Now watch this video, it's about 50 minutes so it all won't get done in class. It is called Our Secret Universe, the Hidden Life of Cells https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoIP1_fbNpI This is about viral invasion of a cell. You will see the inner workings of the cell as well as how we get sick from viral invasions. On the right hand side of a new entry titled "Cell vs Virus" I want you to describe: a) The sizes of each, b) Are cells and viruses living vs non-living? c) How do viruses invade a cell? d) The role of antigens and antibodies in viral invasions, e) The origins of the mitochondria and what do they do, f) What macromolecule did you hear the most (by far) during the movie? 4) On the left side of this entry I want you to list: 3 viral diseases, symptoms, and what makes each unique? You can use some of your time tomorrow to get caught up, but be sure to have everything complete by Thursday when I return. W: Biology - I'm out again! ...but I'll be back tomorrow. First off, if you didn't finish your homework, please make sure to be caught up. Next, with the entry we began the week with, The Kingdoms of Life, I want you to use the following deep time interactive to find out when each kingdom began. This should be listed on the mirror image drawing on the left hand side of the entry. We are going to need a lot more space on this left hand entry so don't get too huge with your notes. Underline these notes in Blue so we know that these are timeline data. The Interactive can be found at: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/travel-through-deep-time-interactive-earth-180952886/ Watch this video when you are done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoIP1_fbNpI There won't be any notes that you need to take, but the quiz questions may come off of this movie! What you don't finish in class should be completed as homework. There will be a quiz tomorrow! Medical Biology - First off, if you didn't finish your homework, please make sure to be caught up. Write your response to this question in your crack on this entry. Th: Biology - So it was kind of clear that we need to take a day to recooperate and make sure we're on the right track. So, first we started today with a quiz of the material that was completed over the last two days, and while you took that quiz I checked in the parent Input. While I'm thinking about it, don't forget that you also get a homework score tomorrow before I post grades for the grading period. In any case, before we get to microscopes tomorrow, I really just need you to be up to date on all of your notes. Here is a slideshare site that should be able to give you the basics of kingdoms, prokaryote vs eukaryote, and ages when they developed. http://www.slideshare.net/mrtangextrahelp/03-6-kingdoms-prokaryote-eukaryote Once you've done this rewatch the video of weird entities from Monday and try to guess the kingdom and age of these creatures. You don't have to turn anything in, just practice fro the test early next week. Medical Biology - We're going to take today to regroup and make sure we are on the same track after I've been out for the last couple days. At this point you should be able to describe the various kingdoms, the size of viruses and the viral replication process as well as the general age that they appeared upong the scene we call "Life on Earth". This site may help with anything you didn't get in class: http://www.slideshare.net/mrtangextrahelp/03-6-kingdoms-prokaryote-eukaryote. Once you've taken some time to do this, watch the video from monday and decide what these critters are and how old they might be based off of what you know. Don't forget that homework scores, parent input scores, and quiz scores all go in tomorrow and grades will be posted! Make sure you have done what you should. F: Biology - Today is the end of the second marking period! We practiced using the microscopes and will continue on Monday. NO HOMEWORK! You may want to think about the final grading period of the semester and what that might look like to you. In other words, are you really working as hard as you can to be successful? Medical Biology - Last day of the second grading period. You should have prepared a number of slides today to practice using the scopes. On Monday we will be looking at specialized cells. Enjoy your homework free weekend!
