classwork/Homework
HEY! Before I start rambling about this week, I want to have a PARTY/GET TOGETHER on Wednesday night at 6pm on Zoom! I'll post the code here on the website and we'll all get a chance to say hello! IT's nothing but a way to see each other's faces and to test out our Zoom platform. Sound good? I hope you all will show up! And tell a friend to jump in as well! ...and be sure you aren't in your underwear. Okay, here's the invite.
[email protected] is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Topic: Biology Zoom Party! Time: Apr 15, 2020 06:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting https://zoom.us/j/95375202054?pwd=WjdLZkFqeXE0TGFuTzZxU09YUEQ0QT09 Meeting ID: 953 7520 2054 Password: 945613 JUST LIKE LAST WEEK, I want to take today to share everything I know as of this moment. Things continue to change! This posting is important for everyone, and you should use it like a checklist. 1) It looks like this week (13th-19th), when you would normally be back to school, there will still be no instruction in class or online. This is basically the week where teachers can virtually get together and plan, as well as get instructions for those teachers who need help working online. I mostly already have your curriculum planned out and MAY post some of it as the week goes on for anyone who wants to get a head start. 2) Myself, I feel comfortable being on the internet and using a combination of this site for general instructions, like I always have, as well as a number of other resources I don't normally use. Your books in electronic format (online resources) and Khan Academy will be used for tutorials on topics. I will be also using online videos and databases for activities, and your personal websites will be used for showing off your personalized work that will need to be completed each week. One change from last week will be my planned tutoring platforms. I originally planned to use Google Hangouts, but since the district has provided us with Zoom, I'll probably shift to that. LASTLY, as always I will be working with my work and personal email. If you receive notification from an email, [email protected], this is ME! Please allow access. 3) All of you work will be placed on YOUR website that has been registered with me using the Google Form from a few postings ago. I've placed it here again: https://forms.gle/THykBuczV3q4BVNf9 Please make sure to double check your permissions as "Everyone Can View" so that we can collaborate, and I can grade your work. THE MAJORITY OF YOUR PAGES SO FAR HAVE NOT BEEN OPENED FOR UNIVERSAL VIEWING!!! On a side note, as always I will be working with my work and personal email. If you receive an access notification from an email, [email protected], this is ME! Please allow access. 4) It looks as though grading will be shifting to a credit/no credit format, but that is NOT absolutely decided on yet. If that is the case, you only need to complete EXACTLY what is asked for. 5) Your weekly schedule for SCIENCE will be: Work will be assigned to you on Wednesday's. My "office hours" (Zoom) will be on Thursday and Friday from 8-10am. All work should be posted on your website by 8 am on the following Monday. I will go there and, using the rubric, post scores by the afternoon on Tuesday. If you are missing a score and you did the work, you probably haven't published the website properly. 6) I believe that unless we return to school, this is our new norm. We're going to be sure to cover everything you need to know. If you need anything, and it's outside of my "office hours" please feel free to text me at 619-315-1789. 7) Several of your classmates are not checking the website, please find the emails/numbers of at least 5 of your classmates and send them a quick text/email to "Check Casey's Website!" IB BIOLOGY ONLY: I will be posting a video of your mesocosm projects later this week as I will get access to my room on Monday for about 40 minutes and then must leave. As to your pet projects, you can continue to conduct your monthly measurements and post them (along with previous work) to a separate page on your website. Just remember, if grading shifts to credit/no credit, extra credit becomes a moot point. Lastly, please know that I have adjusted your curriculum to finish plants very quickly, and to review major topics for those of you who are taking the AP exam. Of course, if you are taking that exam, you should be taking all of this extra time reviewing your weakest spots as well as attending the daily lessons on the AP Video tutorial website I posted a few weeks ago. Here it is again: https://www.youtube.com/user/advancedplacement BIOLOGY AND COMMUNITY HEALTH ONLY: I think you are going to have a good time with the ecology project I have planned out for you. ...at least, I'm excited.
