classwork/Homework
M: Biology - Today we finished up follow up questions for sex ed and then were introduced to a mysterious puzzle on something called meiosis. You were given the first and last steps, but nothing in between. How in the world can it get from there to there. Tonight just pencil in how you think it works. Medical Biology - Today we finished up any last minute questions on the reproductive system and then had a pow-wow on sexually transmitted diseases. Tomorrow you will make some diagnoses based on this information tomorrow. T: Biology - Today you looked at your ideas on how Meiosis can transform a cells genetic material into 4 gametes. Tonight I want you to finish it up with a perfect example. I'll show you the answer tomorrow, but if you get it right first, BIG BONUS! You should have these terms included: crossover, sister chromatid, centriole, centromere, spindle fibers, cleavage furrow, nucleus, and homologous pair. Underline them! Here's some websites/videos that might help: Here’s a video on meiosis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMEyeKQClqI Interactive Meiosis: http://www.sumanasinc.com/webcontent/animations/content/meiosis.html Medical Biology - Today we finished up sexually transmitted diseases and then were introduced to a mysterious puzzle on something called meiosis. You were given the first and last steps, but nothing in between. How in the world can it get from there to there. Tonight just pencil in how you think the transitional parts work to produce the 4 cells at the end. FREE CPR Certification! Check out the flyer I have attached below! ALSO - New Opportunity: The Life Sciences Summer Institute (LSSI) high school student program application is now open. Please forward to high school students interested in obtaining a summer internship in the life sciences/biotechnology field. Internships are paid opportunities and college credit is provided for completion of the pre-internship boot camp. Please direct any interested student to the link below to begin their application. Important dates to remember: Program runs from June 19-August 11, 2017 Pre-internship boot camp: June 19-June 23, 2017 Deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 29, 2017 (5 p.m.) Application link: http://workforce.org/life-sciences-summer-institute W: Biology - Today you had a follow up lecture on meiosis to make sure that you know what all of the vocabulary from yesterday is used properly. Then we started with a "Butter on Toast" diagram to compare and contrast the qualities for mitosis and meiosis. Here's the website we used: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/how-cells-divide.html Whatever you didn't finish today you should finish tonight. You should also develop questions on the last several entries related to cellular reproduction. Develop at least 3. Medical Biology - Today we looked at the various ideas you came up with for how meiosis works. We then attached some important vocabulary to this process: crossover, sister chromatid, centriole, centromere, spindle fibers, cleavage furrow, nucleus, gametes, and homologous pair. ...and we underlined them! As homework I want you to create a "butter on toast" diagram for comparing this process of meiosis with mitosis. Here's the site that can help us: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/how-cells-divide.html Th: Biology - I need you to come tomorrow prepared to take the test. You should be familiar with everything we've done, but remember the big idea too, Why and how do cells reproduce? Do you know why cancer is a problem with mitosis? Do you know why meiosis is necessary for reproduction? You will be able to use your notebook on the second part of the test. Oh, and here's the rap battle of mitosis vs. meiosis: Mitosis vs meiosis rap battle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qH4WUUQ5pOI Medical Biology - I need you to come tomorrow prepared to take the test. You should be familiar with everything we've done, but remember the big idea too, Why and how do cells reproduce? Do you know why cancer is a problem with mitosis? Do you know why meiosis is necessary for reproduction? Also don't forget You will be able to use your notebook on the second part of the test. Oh, and here's the rap battle of mitosis vs. meiosis: Mitosis vs meiosis rap battle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qH4WUUQ5pOI F: Biology - Today we did the test on mitosis, meiosis, and cancer. Next week we start our next big question so just relax this weekend. You've worked hard ...actually only a few of you worked hard this week. Homework completion is horrid right now. Next week we'll be doing a homework quiz so get your buns in motion! Medical Biology - Today you had the thrilling experience of taking a test on the relationship between mitosis, cancer, meiosis, and reproduction. I'm sure you did well. Next week we will start a new topic on how traits get passed down from parent to child. No homework.
